Health & Physical Education
Our faculty, staffed by five full time members boasts an extremely active after school program. These after school programs prove the dedication by the Physical Education staff to the development of each students athletic potential.
Our department offers some of the finest facilities including a beautiful 25 metre, eight lane pool with the latest diving blocks, a comprehensive gym and gym floor with state of the art netball and volleyball facilities, an abseiling tower and climbing wall as well as seven outside tennis courts, three outside basketball courts, a hockey/soccer oval and full sized football oval.
In lower school, students are offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports to broaden their experience base in movement skills. This enables them to transfer these skills to all aspects of their life; it is proven that more coordinated people are successful in other areas of life including reading, writing, coordination, logical deduction and empathy. As well as movement skills the development of a healthy positive mental and physical attitude is central to the delivery of all aspects of Health, Outdoor and Physical education.
Our classes are single sexed wherever it is possible in both Health and Physical Education to facilitate our ability to tailor our learning strategies to our groups. Students are assessed on their movement skills, game strategies, tactics, personal management and ability to get along with others during Physical Education. Health Education classes focus on student’s ability to manage their health and understand the reasons for making healthy choices.
We currently offer specialist subjects in:
Soccer Enrichment Year 7 to 10
Outdoor Education Year 10-12
Physical Education Studies Year 11-12
Certificate II in Sport and Recreation Year 11- 12
Certificate II in Sports Coaching Year 11- 12
Our strong ties with the Royal life Saving Society of WA to deliver the Dianella Secondary College RLSSWA Swim and Survive Program ensures that all students in lower school have the opportunity to receive the best swimming instruction possible and are eligible to receive certification at the end of the program.
Our strong ties with the East Perth Football Club also allows students to access specialist AFL training and be part of the Bakari Royals team which played at Domain Stadium in 2016 during the AFL Multicultural round.
After school sports include netball, soccer boys and girls and basketball and we have proven time and again that we are a school who has a competitive drive coupled with skill and determination.
All students have the opportunity to participate in many sporting events including Interschool Lightning year carnivals Year 7 -10, Inter house school athletics and swimming carnivals and the Interschool Track and Field carnival, all which provide our students with the prospect to pit their skills against other athletes.
The Physical Education department at Dianella Secondary College is always looking at ways to improve the delivery of our curriculum and variety of opportunities we can offer our students. We take pride in the success we have had in the past and look forward to the future with enthusiasm.
