Year 7 STEM Excursion

24/8/2018

On the 16th of August, the Year 7 STEM student went on a fantastic excursion to ECU Mount Lawley. We began with a discussion of the concepts of robotics, coding and programming. Afterwards, we did an unplugged programming activity. This means coding without the need for technology!

Soon after we separated into pairs and were assigned to a specific area, each with a different robot. The areas included Edison, Dash, Lego EV3, Bloxorz and Scratch Junior just to name a few. After two hours of coding fun, we arrived back at school, very happy due to the amazing day we had! We would like to thank Zina and the ECU staff for organising another excellent workshop.

ATAR students learn time-management skills for upcoming exams

24/8/2018

This week, Year 11 and 12 ATAR student participated in Study Skills sessions run by Elevate Education.  The sessions specifically focused on time management and how to create a healthy school, work, leisure and study balance.  Students were lucky enough to hear from Georgie, a university student, who encouraged them to create a study planner and plan study around current commitments. Overall, this session will help students to manage their time wisely as they get closer to their exams.

  2. Do I need to achieve a ‘C’ grade in all my Year 11 and 12 courses? NO, you are only required to achieve 14 ‘C’ grades in total over Year 11 and 12

  3. If I get an ‘E’ grade for some of my courses, do the courses still count towards the WACE? YES, all courses regardless of the grade still count towards course completion.

  4.  I must do 6 courses (or equivalent) in Year 11 and 12. YES

  5. I can choose to have private study class (4 sessions a week) if I wish. NO, private study is only given to students who do courses off campus or for exceptional circumstances.

  14. To achieve an ATAR of 70, which is the minimum ‘front door’ for Murdoch, Curtin and Edith Cowan Universities, students would need an average of approximately 60% over their best 4 ATAR courses. YES

Year 12 Hospitality students deliver feast for Matilda Bay Rotarians

1/8/2018

Year 12 Hospitality students rose bright and early on Wednesday the 25th of July to be at school for a 6.00am start. Students prepared and served food to nearly 50 guests for the school’s annual Rotary breakfast. The menu included a cooked meal, fruit, yoghurt, muffins and croissants.

The event provided an opportunity for the Year 12s to put in to practice all of the skills they have been learning over the past 18 months. The class have received a lot of positive feedback about the quality of both the food and the service. Well done to everyone who arrived bright and early and a special thank you to Ms Elson and Ms Philippe who helped to make the breakfast such a success.
