DanceDianella Secondary College offers a school based specialised dance program for all year levels. Students are able to explore a variety of genres which varies each semester but may include Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Cultural dance and Acrobatics. Students also have the opportunity to creatively express and develop their own choreography. In 2016, the Dance Team was established. This is an after school dance program which runs twice a week with entry by audition. There are a number of performance opportunities for students including the annual Arts events, school assemblies and other community events.
Lower School Years 7-10 study dance for a semester, two hours per week. The focus of these courses is to expose students to different genres and explore their creativity in producing dance works. Students are encouraged to be involved in extracurricular activities and performance to build confidence in dance. Senior School Year 11 and 12 students will be offered the opportunity to complete the General Course or a Certificate II in Dance. Further information can be found in the student hand book. The Upper School courses are run as a year-long course with four sessions per week. The Year 11 General Dance Course is offered to students and is split into two units; Exploring Dance and Dance as Entertainment. Students are able to investigate past and present influences on dance as well as the musical theatre genre. The Year 12 General Course consists of two units; Popular Culture and Australian Dance. In first semester students are required to complete an Externally Set Task as well as produce and perform their own choreography. Semester 2 looks closely at dance in Australia and historical and cultural influence on dance. |
