Health & Physical EducationThe Health,Outdoor and Physical Education faculty is operated by four full time staff members and boasts an extremely active after school program. These after school programs prove the dedication of the Physical Education staff to the development of each students athletic potential.
Our department provides students with some of the finest facilities including a well maintained 25 metre, eight lane pool, which is often used by outside groups as a training facility. Our facilities also include a comprehensive strength and conditioning room and gymnasium with high quality netball and volleyball facilities, an abseiling tower and climbing wall as well as seven outside tennis courts, three outside basketball/netball courts, a hockey/soccer oval and full sized football oval. In Lower School, students are offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports to broaden their experience base in movement skills. This enables students to transfer these skills to all aspects of their life; it is proven that more coordinated people are successful in other areas of life including reading, writing, logical deduction and empathy. As well as movement skills, the development of a healthy positive mental and physical attitude is central to the delivery of all aspects of Health, Outdoor and Physical Education. Wherever possible, our classes in both Health and Physical Education are single-sexed to facilitate our ability to tailor our learning strategies to our groups. Students are assessed on their movement skills, game strategies and tactics, personal management and ability to get along with others during Physical Education. Health Education classes focus on students' ability to manage their health and understand and implement the reasons for making healthy choices. We currently offer specialist subjects in: Specialist Soccer Program Year 7-12 Outdoor Education Year 11-12 Physical Education Studies Year 11-12 Certificate II in Sports Coaching Year 11- 12 We continue to have a strong partnership with Royal life Saving Society of WA to deliver the Dianella Secondary College RLSSWA Swim and Survive Program, ensuring that all students in Lower School have the opportunity to receive the best swimming instruction possible and are eligible to receive certification at the end of the program.
