On Wednesday 30th August, the Arts Department held their annual Arts Night to a packed out gym. The Arts Night allows students participating in Dance, Drama, Media, Music, Visual Art and Photography to showcase their work from throughout the year. This year 250 students participated in the event, an increase from 217 in 2016. It was the first time students from the Design and Photography course, a new addition to the Arts Department, had displayed their work by producing posters for the night. These students also did the photography for the event. Drama students performed their piece “Slices of Life” which they have been developing over a 5 week after school workshop run by the Western Australian Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCO). “Dianella Secondary College has been working closely with WAYTCO to form a strong partnership that will continue to provide optimal learning opportunities for performing arts students “says Eva Cicmirko, Head of Arts. Drama students also designed and coordinated the lighting on the night. The DSC Senior School ensemble performed numerous pieces and also set up their new staging, as an assessment for their course. Mr Sinclair also included a combined band and choir who performed “Man in the Mirror”. Media students showcased their videos from the year, including some from the Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre. Visual Arts students had an exhibition set up around the Gym to display their artwork. Dance students performed many group and solo performance that they have learnt over the last two terms. Overall, the DSC Arts Night recognised the hard work, including months of after school rehearsal and preparation. Dianella Secondary College Arts staff and students have been putting in during 2017. “Well done Dianella SC and your Arts Department for a great show tonight. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing former students display their talents and charisma. “ – Paul Johnston, former Music Teacher of Dianella Secondary College Comments are closed.
