Dianella Secondary College, with assistance from The Smith Family, was lucky enough to partner with the Perth International Arts Festival. Over the last couple of weeks, students have attended shows and participated in Performing Arts workshops.
Circus In Week 3, selected students attended a performance of Il N’est Pas Encore Minuit” performed by French Circus Collective Compagnie XY at the Regal Theatre. The show featured jaw-dropping acrobatic feats from 22 performers, 1920s Jazz music and interjected humour. It was the first time Compagnie XY has performed in Australia. On Wednesday 14 February, 30 Dianella Secondary College students attended a Circus workshop at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. The workshop had three facilitators from Compagnie XY and their Australian partner troupes. Students participated in rotations that assisted them to develop their acrobatic skills.
The Barber Shop Chronicles On Thursday 15 February, students also attended the PIAF play, The Barbershop Chronicles, at the Octagon Theatre at the University of Western Australia. The Barbershop Chronicles play is a fast paced journey from London across Africa that discussed the ideas of race and family in a light-hearted and funny way. The show featured upbeat music and laugh out loud humour. The next day, Dianella Secondary College students were lucky enough to attend an Arts workshop run by the actors from The Barbershop Chronicles. Students rotated through three activities that allowed them to develop their voice and improvisation skills. They also created their own barbershop posters while discussing themes of the performance.
