Congratulations to Bethany Robinson and Ayouk Mading who performed in the 2018 Fringe Festival show, “Yourseven” directed by James Berlyn held at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. The Year 12 students were included in the performance as they have been attending classes at the WA Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCO). They were both scouted and awarded full scholarships after completing workshops held at Dianella Secondary College by WAYTCO in 2017. In these classes, they have been learning many different skills such as puppetry. “Yourseven” is based on Jaques' famous speech from "As You Like It", and prompts the audience to consider their life journey through the frame of Shakespeare's seven ages of man. The whole performance is a “walk through experience” for the audience who come face to face with the seven ages of man represented by the actor though strictly non – verbal performing. “This performance really helped develop my non –verbal skills when performing,” said Ayouk Mading , who was a chorus member in the show. Overall, both students were very grateful for the experience. Not only did they find it beneficial for their Year 12 Drama studies, but recognised it was an excellent life experience. “The best part about performing for the WA Youth Theatre Company is meeting and networking with such amazing performers from all around WA,” said Bethany Robinson, who also was a chorus member in the performance.
